Oral hygiene is very important for a top-notch smile and oral health. This is why it’s important to help your child keep up on oral hygiene regularly. Now, our pediatric dentist, Dr. Matt Swan, understands this might be a difficult task if you’re not sure what children’s oral hygiene consists of. So, they will be happy to give you the tips and information you need. It’s best if your child does the following things:

-Brush their teeth twice a day (every morning and night): If possible, encourage them to brush for two minutes each time. As they scrub, it’s best that they use a soft-bristled toothbrush that is the appropriate size, like a child-sized toothbrush. Make sure to only introduce fluoride toothpaste after they turn 2 years old.

-Floss their teeth once a day: Flossing helps prevent cavities between the teeth as well as gum disease. As they floss, make sure they use a tool that is easy to maneuver because hard-to-use floss can increase the chances of damaging the oral tissues.

-Attend their regular dental checkups every six months: The treatments provided at the checkups are very important. This is because they deeply clean the teeth, strengthen and nourish the smile, and help your child feel more confident and comfortable in the hands of the dentist.
