When it comes to the welfare of your child, we understand you don’t mess around. baby bottle tooth decay, a sickness impacting the teeth of children 6 and younger, can leave your child with damaged teeth and bones; in the most severe cases, teeth can even be lost and permanent destruction can be done to the gums and bones. At Mountainland Pediatric Dental & Orthodontics, there are some things we can do to make sure that your child’s teeth will remain as strong as possible, even if they’ve had a run-in with baby bottle tooth decay.
As with most oral services, the care options will vary depending on the age of your child. Dr. Matt Swan will work hand-in-hand with you to make the perfect plan for your little one. One of the initial things they may suggest is to lessen the percentage of sugary sweets currently in your child’s meal plan; sugary foods are the favorites of cavity-causing bacteria that erode teeth. The dentist may also suggest giving your child an enamel-enhancing fluoride treatment and/or prescribe fluoride pills to boost your child’s first line of defense against cavities. Finally, the pediatric dentist will go over helping the child brush their teeth twice daily and floss their teeth once per day.
