Do you have questions about the first dental visit for a child? If so, our dentist, Dr. Matt Swan, is happy to help you find the answers you need. The more you know about the appointment, the less nervous you might feel for your child. So, to help you, they is happy to provide the answers to these commonly asked questions about a child’s first dental appointment:

Q: What will happen at the appointment?

A: Your child will sit comfortably in the dental chair and our dental team will get to know them a little bit. We will gradually earn their trust and help them feel excited about everything that is going on. We will take X-rays and will examine your child’s smile to make sure everything is in tip-top shape. This appointment is mostly meant to help your child feel comfortable with our team and at our office.

Q: Can I be there next to my child?

A: You can most definitely be in the room with your child. If possible, you can even hold your child’s hand and sit next to their chair. This can help them feel more comfortable during the appointment.

Q: What if my child has a cavity?

A: If your child has a cavity, our dentist will explain the problem and help you and your child understand what is going on. Then, they will determine the right type of treatment and then will ask if you and your child are comfortable with treating it. Then, if you are comfortable, they will schedule another appointment where they will help your child stay relaxed in the dental chair and will gently treat the cavity.
